Providing Perspective
The story of Martha and Mary in Luke 10:38–42 tends to send us
women on guilt trips instead of helping us find balance. I believe one original intent for including this account in scripture was to provide perspective, to give us a new lens in which to see our daily circumstances.
In this poem I have attempted to flesh out the story while
maintaining doctrinal integrity.
During my research I was surprised to learn
that some Biblical scholars believe that Martha may have been feeding Jesus and His disciples who had accompanied
Him to Bethany. I decided to take that perspective to emphasize the insights I
